Mayor Pulido:

I personally would like to thank you for taking the time to join with other military veterans at the celebration of the passage of AB 1453 and the bill’s signing by Governor Jerry Brown. Our enthusiasm was uplifted to see city representatives from the cities of Irvine and Santa Ana come together to give a sign of “Job Well Done” to those who have given so much in the defense of liberty and freedom with their lives on the line.

Jerry Brown and Sharon Quirk Silva

We are also pleased that California State Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva has been a very strong supporter in the passage of the bill. As you are well aware, this bill is a giant step for the City of Irvine to convey 125 acres for the specific purpose as a state veterans cemetery in the Great Park. Governor Brown was able to clear his calendar to be with other veterans, as well as the state director for California Veterans Administration.

I am especially proud that the City of Sana Ana was one of the early supporters of our efforts to make this happen – this being the only state veterans cemetery in Orange County. I know that your fellow council members will join you in honoring all veterans who have served in time of war and in time of peace with this dedication of land. We give meaning to their service by consecrating sacred land at the former El Toro Marine Air Station (now Great Park) to be the final resting place for many veterans and their families.

Once again, as Vice Chairman of the Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Committee and also as President of Santa Ana LULAC #147, I thank you for attending today’s event, and please extend to council members our sincere gratitude for their support in adopting a support resolution. This was very key in getting other cities to adopt similar resolutions. I would request that Council present certificates during a meeting surrounding Veterans Day, please let me know and I will be happy to assist in this.

Sincerely,

Zeke Hernandez
